CORNELIUS - Jeff Duyck announced his candidacy for State Representative in House District 29, which includes Hillsboro, Cornelius and Forest Grove. Duyck, a Republican who is a retired small businessman with deep family roots in the district, is running to give his community a strong voice in state government.

"We need a State Representative who will listen to his constituents and address our community's priorities in Salem," Duyck said. "I am proud to have been born and raised in the district, and I'm looking forward to increasing government accountability, growing our local economy, and making our communities safer."

Duyck is a former farmer and former owner of Pacific Harvest Supply and Dutch Country Mercantile. He was educated in local schools and is an active member and past president of the Cornelius Chamber of Commerce. In addition to protecting local agriculture, Duyck will support Washington County's diverse economy and high-tech industries.

"Economic development starts with putting more money in the classroom and expanding access to Oregon's community colleges and universities," Duyck said. "We need to protect existing businesses by streamlining regulations and cutting red tape. As State Representative, I'll work to make Washington County a better place to do business and provide jobs."

Duyck also said he will focus on increasing public safety in the district. He said he'll support providing 24/7 Oregon State Police coverage and tougher sentences for career property criminals and identity thieves. Duyck has been endorsed by Washington County Sheriff Rob Gordon.

"We can't have safe communities without State Troopers patrolling our highways," Duyck said. "I'll support the efforts of the State Police and local law enforcement to keep our neighborhoods safe, and I'll support laws to keep career criminals and sexual predators behind bars."

Duyck's prior government service includes the Cornelius Public Works Advisory Committee. He has also been active in Forest Grove as a member of Forest Grove Chamber of Commerce and the local rotary.
